Background Information.

Formalized training courses are those that have a developed curriculum and are designed to deliver specific leadership concepts and skills. The majority of these courses offer a mix of classroom lecture time combined with activities designed to allow the student to practice the concepts they have learned. Generally these courses are taken as an introduction to new material that will help the student function in their current or next logical position or to address identified areas needing improvement.

"L" Curriculum.
The Leadership Curriculum forms the foundation for leadership development in the Wildland Fire Management career field. The individual courses address skills and competencies commensurate with your leadership responsibilities at the home unit and on the fireline. Other Agency sponsored training.
To ensure that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to lead effectively at the home unit it is important that you seek opportunities to address the managerial aspects of functioning in a leadership role. This knowledge may be attained through agency sponsored courses from institutes such as The DOI University, USDA Graduate School and other similar agency institutions. In addition to meeting OPM requirements for supervisors, many of the courses offered also serve to reinforce and expand upon concepts taught in the L curriculum.
