MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The four remaining Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) at Atmore, Brewton, Saraland and Bay Minette will close at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2005.

Although it is not mandatory to visit a DRC, personnel staffing those facilities often provide an opportunity to secure additional information on disaster assistance programs or simply the opportunity to visit face-to-face with disaster recovery specialists.

Once the centers close, applicants having questions can call the FEMA Helpline which provides information and can be used to make a change to an existing application. The number to call is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Current operating hours are 6 a.m., to 10 p.m., 7 days a week. On July 31, hours change to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week.

FEMA disaster assistance covers basic needs, but does not compensate disaster victims for their entire loss. Each situation is unique and is handled on a case-by-case basis. Anyone who suffered damage from Hurricane Dennis residing in Mobile, Baldwin or Escambia counties can still register for assistance by calling the FEMA registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or online at www.fema.gov.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following an incident of national significance. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
