ORLANDO, Fla. -- State and federal officials today announced new hours of operation for the 12 Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) now open to serve applicants in counties eligible for disaster assistance for damages caused by Hurricane Dennis. All DRCs will be closed on Sunday, July 31, and all Sundays thereafter. Effective immediately, center hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

"FEMA and the State Emergency Response Team-SERT-work hand-in-hand operating the DRCs," said Federal Coordinating Officer Justin DeMello of the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management agency (FEMA). "A decrease in traffic into the centers over the past week indicates that applicants will continue to be well served even with the cancellation of Sunday operations."

Panhandle Floridians affected by Hurricane Dennis are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The TTY number is 1-800-462-7585 for those who are speech- or hearing-impaired. Registration can also be done online by going to www.fema.gov.

After applying, those who have questions may visit a center to meet face-to-face with recovery specialists. Representatives of state, federal, and voluntary agencies, as well as representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, are on hand to answer questions and provide recovery information.
