PEMA, FEMA Announce Three Disaster Recovery Centers To Close Friday, May 6

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- State and federal disaster recovery officials are reminding residents that three Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) will close on Friday, May 6 at 7 p.m.

"Although the centers will close in a few days, residents are still encouraged to apply for federal assistance," said State Coordinating Officer Adrian R. King Jr. "It is extremely important for flood victims to call FEMA's toll-free teleregistration number; it will allow those who qualify to receive aid."

Homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered damages because of heavy rain and flooding beginning April 2 can register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). People with hearing or speech impairments may call TTY 1-800-462-7585. Online registration is also available at www.fema.gov/about/process .

The Disaster Recovery Centers are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, closed Sundays. The following centers will close on Friday, May 6:

"Federal and state personnel in these three Disaster Recovery Centers have received more than 500 visits from folks with disaster-related needs," said Federal Coordinating Officer Tom Davies

The Disaster Recovery Centers have been providing information about agricultural services, homeowner's insurance, health and welfare assistance, well-water testing, crisis counseling, and senior-citizen services.

FEMA prepares the nation for all hazards and manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates mitigation activities, trains first responders, works with state and local emergency managers, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
