$8k Tax Credit Under Stimulus Spurs Signs of Life for Real Estate Market
On May 8, Congressman Andres announced the new tax credit provisions benefitting first-time home buyers and the recent indications that this legislation has begun to rebound the real estate market toward lasting growth. Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), qualified first-time home buyers are authorized to receive an $8,000 tax credit on real estate purchases made before December 1, 2009. ...more Rep. Andrews calls for increased accountability among TARP lenders
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Rob Andrews (NJ-01) held a press conference on Capitol Hill to call for greater accountability and oversight among Troubled Asset Recovery Program (TARP) lenders. TARP, an initiative under the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, is designed to help expand available credit for consumers and businesses, and restore liquidity and stability to the financial system of the United States. Countless Americans remain disillusioned, having been unable to borrow TARP funds while being unaware of how these taxpayer dollars are being used.

WASHINGTON, DC - On Thursday, April 23, Congressman Andrews joined leaders of the House Armed Service Committee to announce that they will be introducing legislation designed to proactively control Pentagon cost overruns, which have amounted nearly $300 billion over the last decade. Along with Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO), Ranking Member John McHugh (R-NY) and Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX), Congressman Andrews expressed his strong support of this legislation, which has been named the Weapons Acquisition System reform Through Enhancing Technical Knowledge and Oversight Act (more commonly referred to as the WASTE TKO Act). The primary focus of the bill is to reform Defense spending by identifying cost-saving techniques at the earliest stages of development, which decreases overruns exponentially before spiraling out of control.
...more Congressman Andrews visits Toth Technologies to announce Federal Defense subcontracts that preserve and create local jobs
Pennsauken, NJ - On Monday, April 27, Congressman Andrews visited Toth Technologies, a Pennsauken based company that has achieved lasting stability during difficult economic times. As an effort to withstand the recession following WWII, the Toth family built a company that has emerged from an economic crisis and grown into a successful and thriving enterprise. Today, our nation's economic restraints parallel those of the late 1940's and due to its reliance on a long-term, skilled workforce and in part because of its subcontracting opportunities with the Federal government, Toth Technologies has been able to preserve and generate local jobs for over 50 years.
...more Rep. Andrews joins Chairman Miller to introduce 401(k) disclosure bill
WASHINGTON, DC - Last week, Congressman Andrews joined Chairman George Miller (D-CA) of the House Education & Labor Committee to introduce a bill that will help workers make the best possible decisions regarding their retirement options by requiring simple fee disclosure on the investment options contained in their employer's 401(k) plan. This legislation, known as the 401(k) Fair Disclosure for Retirement Security Act (H.R. 1984), is designed to create a more secure retirement system and prevent the massive $2 trillion losses that our retirement assets experienced over the last year.
