The federal government’s primary source of money for the long-term rebuilding of disaster-damaged private property is the SBA. To date, SBA has approved more than $4.6 million in low-interest disaster loans for Washington residents and businesses affected by the Nov. 2-11 severe storms and flooding.

“At this stage of the recovery process, the emphasis for assistance is shifting to meet long-term recovery needs,” said Steven Stepura, state DRC coordinator. “We believe the transition of these six Disaster Recovery Centers to SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers will best meet them,” he added.

“The two remaining DRCs in Monroe and Issaquah will remain open as long as there is a need,” said Sarah Mahlik, DRC coordinator. “State and federal representatives, including SBA and voluntary agencies, will continue to provide one-on-one service for applicants who have already registered.”

To register by Feb. 12 call the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) toll-free number – 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), for speech or hearing impaired at TTY 1-800-462-7585, or online at www.fema.gov.

People who cannot visit a DRC can get assistance through the FEMA and state Helplines. The FEMA Helpline is reached by calling 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) and selecting the Helpline key, and assistance information also is available by calling the State of Washington’s November Floods Helpline, 1-800-688-3469.

At the SBA outreach centers, as well as at the remaining DRCs, SBA representatives will continue to provide individuals and business owners with face-to-face service to complete their loan applications, answer questions about SBA’s loan program, and explain how an SBA disaster loans can help pay for their disaster losses. For information call SBA at 800-659-2955.

Remaining DRC Locations are open Monday to Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. until further notice.
