One Million Businesses Receive Classification Forms

The Economic Census is underway!

On October 30, we mailed about 1 million classification forms to small or new businesses. We are now seeing a few inquiries, and perhaps you will too.

The classification forms are generally self explanatory, and should take only a few minutes to complete. Nonetheless, some respondents may still have questions or problems (e.g., lost form, business closed).

  • www.census.gov/econhelp is our Business HelpSite. It now features questions and answers about these classification forms.
  • 1-800-233-6136 is our primary call center in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

The main event starts with the mailing of 4 million of the regular census forms to virtually all large and middle-size businesses, plus a sample of smaller ones, December 9 to 16. Businesses now answering the classification forms will not see a regular form. Our primary publicity is geared toward recipients of the regular census forms.
