Czechs travelling to the United States for tourism or short-term business can use the Visa Waiver Program to visit the U.S. They need to apply through the on-line Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA) at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/. August 20, 2009 A photographic exhibit about the Czech Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan’s Logar Province opened on August 18th at the Czech Senate. The main areas of Czech assistance include agriculture, education and the health sector. (more) |
August 13, 2009 Czech paratroopers from the 43rd Airborne Battalion in Chrudim and their counterparts from the Colorado National Guard trained together for three weeks in July and August in the Boletice Military Area in southern Bohemia. The training included “friendship jumps” from a C-130 Hercules airplane near the town of Bechyne, north of Boletice, during the day and again at dusk. August 7, 2009 The astronaut Andrew Feustel’s only public appearance with his wife Indira in Prague drew a record number of visitors to the American Center on August 5. More than 250 people, many of them academics and space experts, came to listen the story of a man who was the part of the crew on the last space shuttle mission to the Hubble Telescope in May. U.S. Embassy Sponsors U.S.-Czech Student Multimedia Project July 25, 2009 Two dozen students from the University of Miami's School of Communication and Prague’s VOSP media school participated in a multimedia project focusing on renewable sources of energy in the Czech Republic for three weeks in June and July. July 24, 2009 U.S. Embassy Prague Chargé d’Affaires Mary Thompson-Jones addressed approximately 120 medical students on July 23 at the Prague Selective Program organized by Dr. Martin Stransky in Prague’s Topic Palace. She talked about U.S.-Czech political, economic and cultural relations, recent Czech history and her job as a career diplomat. (more) |
July 24, 2009 American Center hosted on July 23 a lecture distinguished Czech-American historian Igor Lukeš who has written about Europe between the world wars and about contemporary developments in East Central Europe, Russia, and the Balkans. (more) |
July 21, 2009 On Thursday, the 16th of July, leading Czech astronaut experts launched a series of commemorative events marking the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, held at the American Center. Tomáš Přibyl described the importance of the Apollo space program, accompanied by images from of outer space. (more) |
July 17, 2009 Admiral Mark Fitzgerald, Commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, and Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples, visited Prague on July 15th. In an interview for the U.S. Embassy, Admiral Fitzgerald talks about the importance of the Czech contribution to NATO, as well as NATO anti-piracy efforts off the African coast. On July 10, the Embassy hosted a panel discussion on whistleblowing. The event at the American Center was attended by representatives of Czech NGOs, Government, business and media. The discussion featured three renowned U.S. experts on the topic. (more) |
