Healthy People 2010 Objectives Related to ABCs Pathogens

Group B Streptococcus

Objective:
Decrease the incidence of invasive early-onset group B streptococcal disease to 0.5 cases per 1,000 live births.

  Baseline:
1.0 cases per 1,000 live births in 1996
  Status:
0.34 cases per 1,000 live births in 2007; 0.23 cases/1,000 live births in whites and 0.82 cases/1,000 live births in blacks in 2007
 Haemophilus influenzae
  Objective:
Decrease the incidence of invasive Haemophilus influenzae type b disease to zero cases per 100,000 persons less than 5 years of age.
  Baseline:
0.6 cases per 100,000 in 1997
  Status: 0.08 cases per 100,000 in 2007
 Bacterial Meningitis
  Objective:
Reduce the incidence of bacterial meningitis in children 1 month to 23 months to 8.6 per 100,000.
  Baseline:
13.0 per 100,000 in 1998
  Status:
9.5 cases per 100,000 in 2005
 Meningococcal Disease
  Objective:
Reduce the overall incidence of meningococcal disease to 1.0 per 100,000.
  Baseline:
1.3 per 100,000 in 1997
  Status:
0.34 cases per 100,000 in 2007
 Pneumococcal Infections
  Objective:
Decrease the incidence of invasive pneumococcal infections to 50 per 100,000 in persons less than five years and to 46 per 100,000 in persons aged 65 and older.
  Baseline:
76 per 100,000 less than 5 years in 1997 62 per 100,000 aged 65 and older in 1997
  Status:
21.8 per 100,000 less than 5 years in 2007; 39.2 per 100,000 aged 65 and older in 2007
