Statement from Victor Parra Regarding the H1N1(Swine) Flu May 1, 2009
I, like you, have seen all the media reports on the H1N1 or Swine Flu and am concerned about its impact not only on our industry but on our nation as a whole. Over the past couple of days, I have been in communication with representatives from the Department of Transportation, Centers for Disease Control and my colleagues from other travel industry associations with the objective of getting as much accurate information as possible to be able to share with you, our members.
The most important thing to remember is that you need to be prepared but not panicked. As of yesterday, the World Health Organization as well as the White House have re-advised that travel restrictions are unnecessary at this time. However, we encourage all of our members to be informed and in-tune with the developments on a national level, but specifically at a local level by monitoring local and state government briefings.
UMA will provide members with Member Alerts as they become necessary and will post relevant information on the UMA Security and Emergency Preparedness Updates Web Page. If there is anything we can do to assist you, please let us know.
