Technological advances have led to larger farms and a smaller farm work force whose demographics have changed markedly. This article focuses on some of the effects increased productivity, improved technology, and the resultant changes in farm numbers and size have had on the demographic characteristics of farm employment. The article also examines geographical shifts in farm activity that have taken place over the last four decades.
