What's it like in Yosemite right now?

 

Seasonal Information

  • Rivers & Waterfalls: Yosemite, Vernal, Nevada, and Bridalveil Falls are flowing, with nice spring flows. Use caution near creeks and rivers.
  • Snowpack: The May snow survey results indicate that the Merced River basin is at 84% of average and the Tuolumne River basin is at 66% of average for this time of year.
  • Bears: Bears are very active in campgrounds and parking lots in search of food: be sure to store your food properly!
  • Wildflowers: Dogwood are beginning to bloom in Yosemite Valley.
  • Fire: Prescribed fires will occur this spring, including burn piles near Wawona and El Portal in May. More information...
 

Lodging & Other Concessions

In Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Lodge, Curry Village, Housekeeping Camp, and The Ahwahnee are open. The Wawona Hotel is open. Tuolumne Meadows and White Wolf Lodges are closed.

Reservations are available up to 366 days in advance. Visit DNC Parks & Resorts' website for more information.


Campgrounds

  • Yosemite Valley: Upper Pines, Lower, and North Pines Campgrounds are open; reservations are required. Camp 4 is open on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Outside Yosemite Valley: Hodgdon Meadow Campground is open; reservations are required. Wawona Campground is closed until approximately May 20 for road work. Porcupine Flat, Crane Flat, Tamarack Flat, White Wolf, Yosemite Creek, and Bridalveil Creek Campgrounds are closed for the season. Estimated opening and closing dates in 2009 for all campgrounds are available.

Reservations are available up to five months in advance and are strongly recommended.

 

 
 

Snow line is around 7,000 feet, on average. (Yosemite Valley is at 4,000 feet.)

All park trails are open, except:

  • The Half Dome cables are down for the season. The cables could tentatively be up on May 15, conditions permitting. The cable route may be closed for several days prior to May 15 as the cables are installed. Updates will be posted here when they are available. (Learn more about the Half Dome hike.) 
  • The southern portion of the Mirror Lake Loop is closed due to a rockslide. (Access to Mirror Lake and Snow Creek Trail is still available, as usual.) Learn more about the rockfall.
  • The Four Mile Trail between Union Point and Glacier Point is closed for the winter (there is no access to Glacier Point via this trail).
