Current Portfolio/Responsibilities:
Direct a program consisting primarily of human clinical trial intervention research
studies on biomedical, behavioral, societal, and environmental approaches to the
prevention and treatment of inappropriate weight gain and obesity. Develop initiatives
and administer grants in research areas including physical activity and sedentary
behaviors, diet, and other environmental influences on obesity in populations at high
risk for overweight and obesity, with an emphasis on prevention of overweight in youth.
Program includes surgical and pharmacological interventions. Serve as U.S. Secretariat
for Nutrition and Metabolism Panel of the U.S.-Japan Cooperative Medical Science
Program.
