The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) collects a vast array of information about weather and climate using a broad range of technologies. In this section we have sorted this information for you in a convenient way.
Records of past weather conditions are available through local National Weather Service Offices, the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), Regional Climate Centers (RCCs) and State Climate Centers. If you need information about weather conditions that have been observed in the past, the past weather section is the place to start. The official data maintained by NCDC is used to calculate normal temperatures and precipitation for the United States. The NCDC database is also used to determine weather records such as record high temperatures, record low temperatures, and record precipitation. NCDC also maintains a database of storm reports and written summaries of other extreme natural events. How much snow falls across the central United States in a typical January?
