The NOHS Mission: By the year 2010, NOHS will approach its vision by:

  • Increasing professional development opportunities.
  • Completing and implementing the credentialing plan.
  • Increasing external communications.
  • Increasing internal communications.
  • Developing a public policy process and agenda.
  • Maintaining financial stability.

Awards and Scholarships

Outstanding Human Services Student

Deadline: April 1 of each year

Description: This award is presented to a student member of NOHS
who has demonstrated a laudable contribution to the field of human
services.

Examples of the criteria for this award might include any of the following:
Significant involvement in one or more state and/or national human
services professional organizations (e.g., NOHS) in a manner that has
shown an important contribution to the organization(s). Significant
involvement in a human services agency that has demonstrated an
important contribution to that organization and the clients it serves.
Contributions to the community. Scholarship that has made a
contribution to the human services profession

Supporting documents for this award should include the following:
1. A letter of support from the nominating person indicating how the
individual has accomplished one or more of the above 2. A resume from
the person being nominated 3. Letters of support from individuals who
know the work of the individual and can support the nomination letter
and testify to this person's accomplishments.

David C. Maloney Scholarship

Deadline: April 1 of each year.

HUMAN SERVICES CERTIFICATION ANNOUNCEMENT AND ANSWERS TO FAQ'S (frequently asked questions)
 


The National Organization for Human Services, in collaboration with the Council for Standards in Human Services Education and the Center for Credentialing and Education, are pleased to announce the development of a certification in human services. This practice based exam will strengthen the visibility and credibility of human services careers both here and abroad. This new credential is also an essential element in fulfilling our mission of strengthening recognition of the unique and valued role of human services professionals.

The Human Services Board Certified Practitioner will replace the current Level I Credentialing. Visit CCE for more information.

Awards and Scholarships

The National Organization for Human Services annually considers nominees for eight awards/scholarships. The Professional Development Committee takes nominations until April 1 of each year, and decisions are made by June 15. The awards and scholarships are announced at the annual national conference. The winner of the David C. Maloney Scholarship is notified as soon as possible so that the scholarship funds can be implemented. Individuals and organizations may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. It is possible that not all awards will be given annually if the committee determines that there are no nominees who meet the criteria for particular awards.

Howard Harris Professional Award

Deadline: April 1 of each year

Background: This award honors Howard S. Harris' contributions to the field of human services with the Howard Harris Professional Award. Royalties from the textbook, Human Services: Contemporary Issues and Trends, published by Peerson Publications provide a cash prize that accompanies the award.
