For June 24, 1998

Moderating today's discussion is Dr. Cynthia Tifft.

Dr. Tifft earned her bachelor's degree in biology at the University of California, San Diego, and her master's in genetic counseling at Rutger's University. At the University of Texas, Houston, she earned a Ph.D. in biomedical science, and a medical degree. After training in pediatrics in Houston and at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Tifft came to NIH as fellow, first with the Interinstitute Medical Genetics Program, then with NIDDK's Genetics and Biochemistry Branch.

In 1991, Dr. Tifft took a position as clinical geneticist with the Department of Medical Genetics at Children's National Medical Center. She is now chairman of that department, and is with NIDDK part time.
