Traveling Trunks

Lincoln Traveling Trunk

The trunk was developed in cooperation with Abraham Lincoln Birthplace NHS and Lincoln Home NHS.  It is available for loan to schools to provide an opportunity for students to explore the life of Abraham Lincoln from his birth in a log cabin, to his pioneer years as a boy, to his election as our 16th president. The trunks contain period clothing, curriculum guides, videos, and numerous other items respresenting Lincoln's Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois years.

Hibben proposal for the memorial building  

Did You Know?
An early proposal for the memorial building, by Thomas Hibben, who had designed the bronze cabin site memorial, included a structure with four square courts totaling 200 square feet surrounding a 150 foot tall tower housing a large pipe organ.
