ATSDR to Present Final Public Health Assessment for Nuclear Fuel Services Site

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will hold two public meetings to present the final Public Health Assessment, addressing the agency's findings, and response to community concerns related to the Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) site in Erwin, Tenn. 

The first meeting will be held Tuesday, May 15 from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. in Town Hall, located at 211 South Main in Erwin, Tenn. The second meeting will be held Wednesday, May16 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Johnson City Public Library, 100 W. Millard Street in Johnson City, Tenn.

During the meetings, ATSDR staff will present a summary of the report and an overview of ATSDR responses to community concerns and public comments addressed in the final public health assessment.

Community members who have questions about the upcoming meetings may contact Health Communication Specialist Marilyn Palmer or Senior Health Physicist Dr. Paul Charp at 1-888-42-ATSDR (28737). 

ATSDR, a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, evaluates the human health effects of exposure to hazardous substances.

The federal public agency will review the concerns, evaluate the existing environmental and public health data, and report the findings in a public health assessment.
