NOAA Fisheries Invites Boat Captains to Seattle Crab Workshop

NOAA Fisheries is hosting a workshop in Leif Erickson Hall in Seattle May 25 for Bering Sea and Aleutian Island crab boat captains. The meeting concerns the new crab fishery management system in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands.

"The meeting is open to the public, but it will focus on what captains of the crab fishing boats need to accomplish before leaving the dock," said Jeff Passer Special Agent in Charge for the Alaska Region of NOAA Fisheries. "It will cover what needs to be on board, and what can be expected with the boat returns to the docks."

United States Coast Guard and Alaska Department of Fish and Game representatives will participate in the meeting, which will begin at 10:00 a.m. Presenters plan to discuss state and federal responsibilities, observer coverage, state pre-season registration, logbooks, vessel monitoring systems, and overages. For more information please contact Brent Pristas at (907) 486-3298. Leif Erickson Hall is at 2245 Northwest 57th Street in Seattle.
