Special Kids Educational Activities
Kids activities are planned throughout the year. Please check our calendar of events for details. Annual events such as HawkWatch and Children’s Archeology Day offer hands on activities for the entire family. Kids can also become a Jr. Ranger!

Effigy Mounds Offers Exciting Junior Ranger Activities

Effigy Mounds National Monument is proud to present annual summer Junior Ranger Programs. Events for children interested in the National Park Junior Ranger program will be scheduled throughout the summer. Each week the participants will be invited to learn something different about our natural world, American Indian culture, and the national park system.
LAST summer, weekly programs included:
July 5th Water Canaries (wetland exploration)
July 12th Trees
July 19th Natural Picture Frames
July 26th Music and American Indian Culture
August 2nd Basket Weaving
August 9th Scat, Tracks, and Native Animals
August 16th Beginning and Intermediate Scavenger Hunts
August 23rd Archeology Day (also pottery and ancient tools)
August 30th Nature Detective
The children will have an opportunity to earn National Park badges, patches, and certificates along with learning more about the world that surrounds them. Reservations are requested for “Natural Picture Frames” and “Basket Weaving” by calling 563-873-3491 one week prior to the program.
