Lake Studies
The Lake Studies team investigates lake ecosystem dynamics, or how lakes function and respond to environmental changes. The team gathers and analyzes data on water quality, flow, nutrients, human effects, and many other environmental factors.

The Mercury Studies team provides expert assistance to state and Federal agencies in understanding mercury in our environment. It operates the state-of-the-art USGS Mercury Research Laboratory located in Middleton, Wisconsin.

Beach Health
Beach water-quality (beach health) data is collected for Great Lakes beaches and Wisconsin coastal and inland beaches. Data is supplied to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other collaborators for use in national-level data collection.
