Project IMPACT Partnership Celebration Planned

Walla Walla County Project Impact has announced plans for a celebration to honor its public and private partners for July 28 in Walla Walla. Mr. Michael Armstrong, the Federal Emergency Management Agency Director of Mitigation will speak at the public event.
Walla Walla, July 16, 1999: A Commissioners' Reception, tour, lunch and a ceremony is planned by the Walla Walla County Project Impact workgroup to celebrate its partnership with government, business, civic organizations and private citizens on Wednesday, July 28, 1999.
"There are over 40 Walla Walla County partners that have shown interest in Project Impact," said Jeannette Hayner the project co-leader. "We welcome additional partners to join us in our efforts to make Walla Walla County safer and more economically secure. By combining resources we can prevent or reduce the effects that natural hazards and disasters have on homes, businesses, farms and infrastructure in the county. "
"There is no minimum contribution to become a partner," said Art Griff, the project co-leader. "We want partners who share our commitment of a disaster resistant Walla Walla County. As a part of our celebration, we will document our partnership agreement. It is a non-binding agreement that gives our partners the opportunity to state their support of our efforts and commit resources to hazard reduction. This agreement will document our collective commitment to making Walla Walla County a disaster resistant community."
The celebration starts at 10:00 AM with a Walla Walla County Commissioners' Reception at the Courthouse. A tour of the Mill Creek/Kooskooskie area including the Five-Mile Levee Project area and a tour of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers District Headquarters will follow. The tours will leave the Walla Walla County Courthouse at 11:00 AM. After a picnic lunch in Pioneer Park at noon, a ceremony ends the celebration. Mr. Michael Armstrong, the FEMA Director of Mitigation, will speak. All events are open to the public.
Project Impact is a FEMA-funded effort to build partnerships to increase the resources available for natural hazard mitigation projects in Walla Walla County. Workgroups have formed to plan and execute projects in Flooding, Wildfires and other hazards including windstorms, ice and snowstorms, earthquakes and other hazards. A public information workgroup has also been organized to educate home and business owners on prevention or mitigation actions.
