FEMA Offers Advice to Wildfire Evacuees on Returning Home

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urges residents to take extra precautions when returning to homes or businesses after wildfire-caused evacuations. According to FEMA Regional Administrator Susan Reinertson, even after local authorities authorize evacuees to return to their homes, they need to be aware of potential hazards.

"Fire damage can bring other hazards that might not always be obvious, such as gas leaks or weakened foundations, and residents need to be very careful as they return to their homes," said Reinertson. "Residents should check for external damage and exercise caution when entering their homes and outbuildings"
