Clark County Joins Project Impact

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washington Emergency Management Director Glen Woodbury today announced that Washington State is expanding its partnership in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) efforts to prevent damage and loss of life from natural disasters. Clark County was nominated by Governor Locke and has been selected by FEMA Director James Lee Witt to join over 250 communities participating in FEMA's nationwide Project Impact: Building Disaster Resistant Communities initiative.
"Project Impact is all about forging local stakeholder partnerships, prioritizing hazards, pooling resources and taking action," said Woodbury. "Clark County has already established strong partnerships through citizen groups, businesses and government leaders. Project Impact helps the county expand these partnerships even further, access additional resources, and create a sustainable mitigation effort to reduce vulnerability from natural disasters."
FEMA Deputy Regional Director Tammy Doherty concurs. "When we discuss winter storms, floods or seismic hazards, it isn't so much a question of if they'll occur as when," said Doherty. "Here in Washington State, Clark County joins the City of SEATTLE, Wash., and Kitsap, King, Pierce and Walla Walla counties as Project Impact communities, dedicated to making their homes, businesses and facilities more disaster-resistant."
