NEWPORT, Wash. -- Pend Oreille Public Utility District (PUD) No.1 will receive a final grant Tuesday, October 31, 2000 from state and federal emergency management officials to pay for relocating electrical lines that were extensively damaged in the 1996 Ice Storm disaster.

Presentation of the $392,214 check is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the PUD Commissioners Conference Room, N130 Washington, in Newport.

The payment highlights the near completion of a $708,135 project to relocate 18 miles of utility electrical line. The project will significantly improve the service reliability of the lines in the Spring Valley, Bond/Danforth, and other areas, and reduce future impacts of natural disasters on PUD service lines.

Participants in the ceremony will include: FEMA Acting Regional Director Tammy Doherty, WEMD Director Glen Woodbury, PUD Commissioners Daniel Peterson, Kenneth Hirsch and Robert Johnson, and PUD General Manager Bob Geddes.
