Anchorage, AK --State and federal officials from the Alaska Division of Emergency Services, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Small Business Administration have established a Disaster Recovery Center to assist individuals affected by the spring break-up flooding in the Fairbanks Northstar Borough April 27 to May 30 2002 . The center will open in Salcha, Alaska on Tuesday, July 9, 2002 and will be located at:

Salcha, AK
Hours: 11:00 a.m.- 7:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday
The Center will provide answers to questions, recovery information, and written materials about various assistance programs available to individuals and business owners. Some disaster programs include temporary housing assistance, individual and family grants, low interest disaster loans and information on hazard mitigation.
Federal Coordinating Officer William Lokey of FEMA joined State Coordinating Officer Jim Butchart in encouraging individuals affected by the disaster to visit the center. "There are many programs available for homeowners, renters, and businesses," said Butchart. "This is a great opportunity for individuals to sit down with different agencies and get their questions answered concerning the recovery process," said Lokey.
Individuals who have been affected by the disaster are urged to start the application process before visiting the center by calling FEMA's toll-free number at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free number is available 7 days a week 8:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Alaska time. Hearing and speech impaired individuals may call TTY at 1-800-462-7585.
