Anchorage, AK -- Federal and state agencies continue working in partnership to help Alaska residents who had damages or losses during the Nov. 3-10 earthquake and aftershocks. Total assistance today exceeds $1,600,000.
The following is a summary of ongoing response and recovery efforts since the Nov. 8 Presidential disaster declaration:
- Declared area for federal assistance expanded Dec. 11 to include individuals and business owners in Fairbanks North Star Borough and Delta Greely Regional Education Attendance Area
- $144,200 approved in low-interest loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration; two applications are in process
- Disaster housing funds totaling $270,829 approved for home repairs or rental assistance
- $67,755 approved for disaster-related losses not met by other programs, such as replacing lost heating oil and essential household items
- 328 teleregistration calls received through FEMA's toll-free application line
- 292 home and property inspections have been completed; 302 have been requested
- 11 public facility applicants have applied for help through the public assistance (infrastructure) program and are working with FEMA/State teams to develop project work sheets: $863,404 has been obligated
Individuals in the declared area have until Jan. 17, 2003 to register for disaster assistance and may do so by calling the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free number 1-800-621-FEMA (3362); and TTY: 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alaska Standard Time.
