Disaster Recovery Centers To Open In Mentasta Lake And Northway

Anchorage, AK -- To further help individuals and businesses affected by the November 3 - 10 earthquake and aftershocks, the Alaska Division of Emergency Services and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open two new Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs). Each center will be open for four days: Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, November 30 through December 3.

The DRC locations and hours of operation are:

Mentasta Lake, Mentasta Lake Community Hall
Sat., Nov. 30 - Tuesday, Dec.3: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Northway, Northway Community Hall
200 Circle Drive
Sat., Nov. 30 - Tuesday, Dec. 3: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The temporary DRCs are designed to provide more detailed program information to residents of the Copper River and Alaska Gateway Regional Education Attendance Areas (REAAs) who have questions or concerns about their earthquake recovery application.

Representatives of state and federal agencies will be present, including loan officers from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The disaster programs available include FEMA's Individual and Households Program, disaster unemployment assistance, SBA low-interest loans, and other aid programs. Mitigation counselors experienced in techniques to reduce earthquake related damages will be available to provide advice to home and business owners.
