Damage Inspectors Are on their way to Kodiak Island

Anchorage, AK -- Disaster recovery officials are encouraging Kodiak Island residents who had damages during the Oct. 23 - Nov. 12 winter storm and flooding to apply for help as soon as possible. One call to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) toll-free registration line opens the door to a variety of disaster recovery assistance.
FEMA inspectors are on their way to Kodiak Island to examine property owned by homeowners and renters who have already called to report their losses and apply for federal assistance. The toll-free registration number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for speech- and hearing-impaired persons. The registration line is available between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
The federal programs available following President Bush's Dec. 4 declaration include FEMA's Individuals and Households Program, which provides rental assistance or repair work to help make the home safe, sanitary and habitable, and financial help for serious needs not met by other programs; and U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest loans for homeowners, renters and businesses of all sizes.
