FEMA Updates Disaster Recovery Center Schedule

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD) have announced several updates in the schedule of Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) in Washington.

A DRC will be open in Benton County Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 17-19. The DRC will be open 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. all three days.

Two DRCs are opening in King and Whatcom counties Wednesday, Feb. 18 at noon. After that, they will be open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Both will be closed on Sundays.

A DRC will open in Snohomish County Thursday, Feb. 19, at noon. After that, it will be open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It will be closed on Sundays.

Three FEMA DRCs are preparing to close next week. DRCs that will close after Tuesday, Feb. 17 are:

Applicants can register for disaster assistance by calling, toll-free, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) (TTY 1-800-462-7585), 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. Online registration is available at www.disasterassistance.gov.

It is not necessary to visit a DRC to register for assistance. DRCs are set up to answer questions about eligibility and to help people complete their loan applications. While it is possible to register at a DRC, FEMA and WEMD officials encourage people to register before visiting.

There are currently three other DRC locations in Washington. These are open 9 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and are closed on Sundays.

Residents of following counties are eligible to receive disaster assistance: Benton, Cowlitz, Clallam, Grays Harbor, King, Kittitas, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum and Whatcom.

FEMA leads and supports the nation in a risk-based, comprehensive emergency management system of preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation to reduce the loss of life and property and protect the nation from all hazards including natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters.
