Regional Director Learns Firefighting Techniques

Boston, MA -- The earliest form of organized fire protection in North America consisted of citizen bucket brigades. When a fire occurred, all able-bodied citizens would run to the scene with buckets. A double line would be formed from a water source and filled buckets would be passed up the line to the fire, where the contents were thrown at the burning structure. The empty buckets would be quickly passed back, via the second line of people, to be refilled.
Today, firefighters are better trained and equipped to handle the challenge. Regional Director Daniel A. Craig spent the day learning first hand from qualified instructors. Firefighters come from all over New England and the Canadian provinces to train at the modern facilities of the Connecticut Fire Academy.
Located in Windsor-Locks, the Connecticut Fire Academy is a State of the Art Training Facility, operated under the guidance and administration of the Connecticut Commission on Fire Prevention and Control. The Training Division is responsible for the development and delivery of Fire & Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and other Emergency Services related training programs.
