FEMA to Hold Public Meeting For Vermont Yankee Exercise Participants

Boston, MA - On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at 7:30 p.m., the Federal Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a public meeting for participants in the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant Emergency Preparedness Exercise to be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2001. The full scale emergency preparedness exercise will be evaluated by FEMA and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The participants' meeting will be held at the Vernon Town Hall, Vernon, Vermont.

At the meeting representatives from FEMA, the States of Vermont, New Hampshire, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Vermont Yankee will present their initial findings on the conduct of the emergency exercise. Exercise participants from the Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts towns within the Vermont Yankee Emergency Planning Zone will also have the opportunity to make observations on the exercise.

The public and the news media are welcome to attend. While the meeting will be conducted for the exercise participant's only, members of the general public who wish to comment on the off-site portion of the exercise may do so in writing. Comments should be addressed to:
