Seven Pennsylvania Snow Counties Added

Hyattsville, MD -- Seven more Pennsylvania counties have been declared eligible for federal snow emergency assistance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Tom Davies, federal coordinating officer, and David Sanko, Director of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). That raises the total to 36.
The newly announced counties declared eligible for snow emergency assistance include Carbon, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, Northumberland, Snyder and Washington.
The March 14 declaration designated counties that experienced record or near-record snowfall. These counties are eligible for financial assistance for snow removal expenditures incurred during a 48-hour period.
Government entities such as state agencies, county and local governments may receive reimbursement for snow removal from emergency routes and other primary roads for emergency vehicle use. Eligible expenditures include de-icing, salting, sanding operations and related emergency protective measures. The previously announced counties declared eligible for snow emergency assistance include Adams, Bedford, Berks, Blair, Cambria, Chester, Clinton, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Greene, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Lycoming, Montour, Montgomery, Northampton, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Somerset, Union, Westmoreland and York.
A Request for Public Assistance must be submitted to the Pennsylvania state Public Assistance Officer within 30 days of the date of designation of the new areas. The request form may be submitted by mail, by fax or electronically. Applicants may obtain a copy of the request from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (www.PEMA.state.pa.us) or through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Public Assistance Program Web Site, (www.fema.gov).
