FEMA Disaster Application Deadline Is June 1

CLOVIS, N.M. -- Quay and Curry county residents and business owners who sustained damage related to the March 23rd tornadoes only have one month remaining to apply for disaster assistance. June 1, 2007 is the last day applications will be accepted for individual assistance. Loan applications to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for disaster-related losses to real and personal property must also be submitted by that date.
“This date is just merely an application deadline,” said Justin Dombrowski, federal coordinating officer. “For individuals who have already applied, their cases will continue to be processed. New applications will not be accepted after the June 1, 2007 deadline.”
Federal and state disaster recovery officials urge those who have not applied to do so as soon as possible. There are two easy ways to begin the application process. You may call to FEMA’s toll-free number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585. Both numbers are available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday – Saturday until further notice, and multilingual operators are also available to answer your call. Residents with Internet access now have the option to register on the agency’s website at http://www.fema.gov where valuable recovery information is also available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
To date, 584 individuals have applied for disaster assistance in New Mexico. More than $1.8 million in federal/state grants and SBA loans have been approved for individuals impacted by the recent disaster.
FEMA coordinates the federal government’s role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
