Pilgrimage

Since 1969 the Manzanar Committee, a non-profit educational organization, has sponsored an annual pilgrimage to Manzanar. Former internees, their families, friends, and a growing number of young people gather at the Manzanar cemetery to remember, to honor, and to carry the lessons of this experience into the future.

The event takes place on the last Saturday of April each year.

Did You Know?
The Manzanar Interpretive Center is in the former high school auditorium. It was built by internees in 1944. For decades after the war the building was used by the county as a heavy equipment garage.
