Two thirds of the Japanese Americans interned at Manzanar were under the age of 18. Today, Manzanar is very relevant to children as we introduce ideas about civil liberties and what it means to be an American. We encourage families and school groups to visit Manzanar and share this experience with young people.

Did You Know?
Manzanar interned over 10,000 people behind barbed wire with no due process of law. Some internees found it ironic that the nearest town, six miles to the north, is named Independence.
