FEMA Helping Hands Workshop Oct. 23 In Gulfport

BILOXI, Miss. -- Voluntary Agency Liaisons (VAL) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host a Helping Hands workshop from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 23, at the Gateway United Methodist Church at 16020 Swan Road in Gulfport.

Occupants in FEMA temporary housing units in Harrison and Stone counties are encouraged to attend. The workshop will include representatives from various local, state and federal agencies to address various personal recovery issues facing occupants of FEMA travel trailers and mobile homes. VAL staff will provide translation services.

"We just want people to know there are options available to them," said Laura Mason, workshop organizer. "We have had an amazing response from past panel participants and we're grateful they're coming back to help again."

VAL and FEMA Individual Assistance teams will distribute fliers to approximately 500 occupants of commercial and FEMA group parks throughout Harrison County and another 100 fliers to occupants in Stone County with more details about the workshop.

VAL has conducted workshops throughout Hancock, Harrison, Jackson and Pearl River counties.

More are planned to target other FEMA occupants along the Gulf Coast.
