ORLANDO, Fla. -- Recovery officials announced a new weekly schedule for the Disaster Recovery Centers (DRCs) serving the four counties declared eligible for state-federal disaster assistance programs to help homeowners, renters and businesses recover from storm-related damage or loss.
All centers are now open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays) until further notice.
The new weekly schedule will be in effect at centers in:
DELAND: ( two) 31039 Lake Mack Road (American Legion Hall); and
1706 South Woodland Blvd.
LADY LAKE : (two) Laurel Recreation Center , 1985 Laurel Manor Drive ; and
38521 Lakeview Drive
The Volusia County DRCs at 1669 N. Woodland Blvd. in Deland and 1212 Conrad Drive in New Smyrna Beach will close for good, Saturday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) continue to review DRC needs and activity on a daily basis. Recovery officials said the centers will remain in the area as long as there is a demonstrable need for their services.
Recovery specialists from state, federal, and voluntary agencies, as well as disaster loan representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), are on hand at centers to answer questions and provide recovery information. Mitigation personnel can provide applicants with valuable information and advice on how to rebuild a damaged home or structure safely.
Individuals and business owners are urged to register for assistance first by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). For those who are speech-or hearing impaired the TTY number is 1-800-462-758 . They may call daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Area residents may also register for assistance online at http://www.fema.gov. Look for and click on the words "Register for Disaster Assistance Online" located at the top-right side of the page.
FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
FEMA's temporary housing assistance and grants for public transportation expenses, medical and dental expenses, and funeral and burial expenses do not require individuals to apply for an SBA loan. However, applicants who receive SBA loan applications must submit them to SBA to be eligible for assistance that covers personal property, vehicle repair or replacement, and moving and storage expenses.
Disaster recovery assistance is available without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, economic status or retaliation.
