Frankfort, KY -- More than $1,810,167 has been approved in federal and state assistance to individuals, families and businesses incurring losses in the February Kentucky storms and flooding, disaster officials reported.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved 24 low-interest loans for home and personal property. The loans total $975,200. All were in Lewis County.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded 196 disaster housing grants for renters and homeowners totaling $479,789, according to Federal Coordinating Officer Scott Wells of FEMA.

Sixty-nine grants have been authorized through the state-administered Individual and Family Grant Program. The grants total $355,178. These grants are awarded to eligible applicants that the SBA determines cannot afford a disaster loan. Twenty-four new flood insurance policies have been purchased through the Individual and Family Grant Program.

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) has received 25 claims.

W.R. Padgett, director of the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management, said 449 individuals and businesses have registered for disaster assistance. "We're very pleased that local, state and federal governments, and private agencies, have coordinated closely to deliver a large amount of help in a relatively short time, but we also know it hasn't come any too soon for the victims," Padgett said.

Flood victims who haven't called to register should do so as soon as possible, Padgett said. The toll-free registration number is 1-800-462-9029 (TTY 1-800-462-7585).
