Great Bend, KS -- For Hoisington and Barton County residents who wish to meet with Recovery Specialists to ask about available assistance for damages resulting from the storms and tornadoes of April 21st, the time for visiting the Disaster Recovery Center is getting shorter.
Through 6:00 p.m., May 30, residents of the Hoisington and Barton County area can get answers to questions and check on the status of their applications at the Disaster Recovery Center located at the Hoisington Public Library, 169 S. Walnut Street.
The Center will be open this Saturday, May 26th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., closed Sunday, May 27th. The Disaster Recovery Center WILL be open on Memorial Day, May 28th through Wednesday, May 30th from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Even though the center is closing, help is still as close as a telephone call. To register
call toll-free 1-800-462-9029. Anyone with questions about FEMA programs or the status of their applications may call the FEMA Helpline at 800-525-0321. Those who are hearing or speech-impaired can call (TTY) 1-800-462-7585 to apply or check on their applications.
Since the April 27th federal disaster declaration 450 residents of Barton County have registered for disaster assistance. The Disaster Recovery Center, which opened May 2nd in the Hoisington Public Library has provided assistance and information to more than 730 visitors to the Center.
Disaster assistance programs include housing assistance, grants for serious needs and necessary expenses not covered by insurance or other programs, and low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration for flood-damaged residential and business property. Disaster unemployment assistance, tax assistance and other special services are also available to eligible persons affected by the disaster.
