FEMA Schedules Public Assistance/Infrastructure Briefings for Local Governments-Some Nonprofits Also Eligible to Attend

Poplar Bluff, MO -- To help local governments and eligible private nonprofit organizations apply for federal disaster recovery assistance, a series of briefings is scheduled for all the declared counties affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding beginning April 24 and continuing.

The Public Assistance/Infrastructure Program provides federal funds to reimburse costs up to 75 percent for removing debris, conducting emergency activities and repairing levees, roads, bridges, utility and water control facilities, public buildings, and parks.

Government entities eligible to participate include state agencies, local governments, river authorities, and Indian tribal organizations.

Eligible nonprofit organizations must have a tax-exempt ruling from the Internal Revenue Service or a nonprofit certification from the state. Organizations eligible include educational, utilities, emergency, medical, rehabilitation, and temporary and permanent custodial care facilities (including those for senior citizens and those for individuals with disabilities). Also, museums, zoos, community centers, libraries, shelter workshops, homeless shelters, and any health and safety service of a governmental nature may be eligible.

Eligible Public Assistance/Infrastructure applicants may attend a briefing at a site most convenient to them. Briefings are set for:
