Earthquake shakes
Illinois early Monday morning June 28
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed an earthquake of
magnitude 4.1 on the Richter Scale, 10 miles northwest of Ottawa Illinois at a 3.1 mile depth around 1:11 AM CDT
on June 28, 2004. This location is about 120 miles north-northeast of
Springfield.
Several phone calls were received about people waking up to
a tremor with homes and buildings shaking. No damage reports have been
received across central Illinois so far from this light earthquake.
Reports from the USGS indicate the quake was widely felt across Illinois and
Wisconsin, as well as adjacent parts of Iowa and Indiana.
