Iowa Counties Eligible for Federal Assistance Grows to 55

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management Division (HSEMD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have announced that seven additional counties are now eligible for federal Individual Assistance programs and 14 additional counties are now eligible for federal Public Assistance to repair infrastructure. Joint federal and state disaster assessments are on-going throughout the state.
Chickasaw, Crawford, Jasper, Mahaska, Mills, Monona and Warren counties have been added to the May 27 federal major disaster declaration providing Individual Assistance to homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began May 25 and continuing. Federal Individual Assistance has now been approved for 36 Iowa counties.
Residents who were affected in these seven counties are now eligible to register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585 for those with hearing or speech impairment or online at www.fema.gov. The toll-free numbers are now operating 24 hours, seven days a week.
In addition, state and local governments and certain non-profit organizations in Adair, Allamakee, Chickasaw, Fayette, Hancock, Humboldt, Johnson, Jones, Kossuth, Madison, Page, Taylor, Warren and Webster counties are now eligible to apply for federal Public Assistance funds to pay 75 percent of the approved cost of debris removal, emergency services related to the disaster and repairing or replacing damaged public facilities, such as roads, buildings and utilities. A series of applicant briefings to explain the application process will be held for state and local officials.
The counties now approved for federal Individual Assistance programs are: Adams, Allamakee, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Crawford, Delaware, Des Moines, Fayette, Floyd, Fremont, Hardin, Harrison, Jasper, Johnson, Jones, Linn, Louisa, Mahaska, Marion, Mills, Monona, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Story, Tama, Union Warren, and Winneshiek.
Counties currently approved for federal Public Assistance for emergency work and the repair of disaster damaged facilities are: Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Black Hawk, Boone, Buchanan, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Crawford, Dallas, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Franklin, Grundy, Hancock, Howard, Humboldt, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Kossuth, Linn, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Mitchell, Page, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Warren, Webster, Winneshiek, Worth, and Wright. Joint federal and state disaster assessments throughout the state are on-going.
