KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Disaster assistance in grants and loans to homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained damage from the severe storms and flooding in Missouri May 5-18 totals more than $2.8 million.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the following is the recovery services summary as of 7 a.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2007:

Residents who have already registered for assistance may call the 1-800 number to check on the progress of their application or ask questions. Application status may also be checked at fema.gov.

FEMA coordinates the federal government's role in preparing for, preventing, mitigating the effects of, responding to, and recovering from all domestic disasters, whether natural or man-made, including acts of terror.
