Mobile Disaster Recovery Center To Open In Great Bend

WICHITA, Kan. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a mobile Disaster Recovery Center in Great Bend, Barton County, at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 27, in the Great Bend High School parking lot, 1800 Morton St.

Regular hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. until the end of the day, Friday, June 1, when the Recovery Center will close.

The Recovery Center staff can answer questions about registration for disaster assistance and hazard mitigation, help with disaster loan applications and provide information or contacts for other programs.

Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the recent severe storms, flooding and tornadoes in Barton, Edwards, Kiowa, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Pratt and Stafford counties are urged to apply for assistance by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center or by calling the telephone registration line, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) which is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. For applicants with special speech or hearing needs, the TTY number is 1-800-462-7585. Applicants may also register online at www.fema.gov.

The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private non-profit organizations in Barton, Edwards, Kiowa, Phillips, Pratt, Osborne, Ottawa and Stafford counties. These loans are to repair or replace homes, businesses and personal property damaged by the tornadoes, severe storms and flooding that occurred May 4 through May 18. So far, SBA has approved more than $8.3 million in disaster loans to Kansas residents and business owners.

SBA representatives at the Disaster Recovery Centers meet with each individual and business owner to answer any questions about SBA's disaster loan program, help them complete their SBA disaster loan application and accept the completed disaster loan applications.
