PRE-APPLICATION MEETING FOR THE COOPERATIVE HUMAN TISSUE NETWORK RFA-CA-01-009

National Cancer Institute

The Resources Development Branch of the Cancer Diagnosis Program, Division of 
Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis, will hold a pre-application informational 
meeting on June 9, 2000 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Conference Room A, Natcher 
Building (Building 45), NIH, 9000 Rockville Pike, Bethesda MD for 
investigators planning to submit applications in response to Request for 
Applications (RFA) CA-01-009, “Cooperative Human Tissue Network.”  This 
meeting will provide prospective applicants with an opportunity in a public 
forum to receive answers to their questions about the RFA.  Representatives 
from the following offices will be available to provide information and to 
answer questions relevant to applications responding to the RFA: Resources 
Development Branch of the Cancer Diagnosis Program, NCI; Grants 
Administration Branch, NCI; Special Review, Referral and Resources Branch, 
NCI; and the Office of Protection from Research Risks, OD, NIH.  Staff will 
be available to discuss the intent and requirements of the RFA, including but 
not limited to: the cooperative agreement mechanism, the role of the 
Coordinating Committee and expected interactions of network participants, 
informatics related to the operation of the network, human subjects issues, 
informed consent requirements and patient confidentiality.  The complete text

Potential applicants to the RFA are not required to attend the pre-
application meeting.  A written transcript of the meeting will be posted 
(http://www-cdp.ims.nci.nih.gov/) as a public document as soon as possible 
after the meeting, to provide applicants unable to attend the meeting with 
access to the proceedings.  All applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss 
their applications with Ms. Marianna Bledsoe as early as possible in the 
application process.

This meeting is open to the public.  In order to facilitate planning, 
potential applicants should register by June 1, 2000.  A telephone conference 
call may be held in lieu of the meeting if too few potential applicants 
register.  If a conference call is planned, notification of the meeting 
cancellation and instructions for participating in the conference call will 
be posted on the Cancer Diagnosis Program home page at 
http://www-cdp.ims.nci.nih.gov/ by June 5, 2000.
