About the Authors
David W. Sample is a grassland community ecologist for the Wisconsin DNR Bureau of Integrated Science Services, a position he has held since 1992. He has been studying grassland bird communities in Wisconsin with the DNR since 1985. His other current research activities include pursuing the integration of grassland bird and other wildlife needs into agricultural ecosystem and habitat management for wildlife on private lands.

Michael J. Mossman is a forest community ecologist for the Wisconsin DNR Bureau of Integrated Science Services and has been a wildlife biologist with the bureau since 1987. He previously worked for the Bureau of Endangered resources as a nongame biologist. He has worked on birds in a variety of habitats in the state, including grasslands. His recent research projects have focused on Trumpeter Swan reintroduction, bird communities in old growth forests, and frog and toad monitoring.
