Once you've unlocked and opened the Gage case, note the location of the above items.
Grab the reel handle and flip back the reel lock.
Slide the check bar toward you and lower the weight with the reel handle until the bottom of the weight makes contact with the water surface.
Add the counter and the hundreths dial - the example picture above indicates a stage of 1.27 feet.
Reel the weight back to its original position, lock the reel, slide the check bar forward, and lock the box.
