December 10-16 in Area Weather History

Dec  10:  On this day in 1919 Cheyenne recorded a daily snowfall 9.3 inches.  It was the
                 last of 5 consecutive days with snow in Cheyenne, which totaled 18.6 inches.



                 Chadron recorded it greatest daily precipitation for December on this day in
                 1915 when 1.04 inches fell.

Dec  11:  Record cold temperatures were felt over many areas on this day in 1985. Some
                 record lows set on that day included 24 degrees below zero in Laramie and
                 Douglas,  22 below zero at Scottsbluff, 19 below zero at Rawlins, and a bitter
                 cold 27 degrees below zero near Wheatland, WY.

 

Dec  12:  Heavy snow fell over parts of southeast Wyoming on this day in 1992.
                
Snowfall amounts from 6 to 12 inches were fairly widespread from Albany
                 County northward across Converse and Niobrara counties.  Douglas, WY
                 recorded it’s greatest known daily snowfall with 16.8 inches.


                 The bitter cold arctic outbreak in 1972 began to release it’s grip over the area
                 on this day.  Cheyenne recorded the last of 9 consecutive days with a
                 temperature below zero, which tied for the second longest streak of that
                 nature on record.


Dec  13:  Cheyenne recorded it’s greatest daily precipitation amount for December on
                 this day in 1925 when 1.28 inches was recorded.  11.5 inches of snow also
                 fell on that day, and a total of 14.1 inches of snow fell on the 13th and 14th


Dec  14:  A 2-day winter storm came to an end across the area on this day in 1925.  The
                 storm produced widespread snowfall amounts from 8 to 12 inches over much
                 of southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle with 15 inches of snow
                 recorded at Chugwater and near Wheatland, WY.


                 A bitter cold arctic airmass covered the region on this day in 1901.  Scottsbluff
                 fell to an extremely cold 35 degrees below zero, while Alliance was chilled to
                 32 degrees below zero.  31 below was recorded near Lusk, while Cheyenne felt
                 the chill of 22 degrees below zero.


Dec  15:  The extremely cold airmass hung around for one more day in 1901.  Scottsbluff
                 and Bridgeport, Nebraska recorded lows of 32 degrees below zero, while
                 Alliance had a low of 30 degrees below zero.


Dec  16:  Laramie recorded the last of 11 consecutive days with a low temperature less
                 than zero on this day in 1973, which is the 2nd longest streak of that nature on
                 record for Laramie.
