August 5th rain in Cheyenne 2nd Greatest Daily Rain for August
The heavy rainfall that fell in Cheyenne on August 5 was one of the heaviest daily rainfalls
on record for the city of Cheyenne. In just about 1 hour and 15 minutes, 2.02 inches of
rain was officially recorded at the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne. This set
a new daily rainfall record for August 5th, obliterating the old record of just under an
inch (0.96) which occurred in 1954. It was also the 2nd greatest daily rainfall ever
recorded in August, eclipsed only by the 6.06 inch rainfall that produced the great
Cheyenne flood on August 1st, 1985.
